Hallmarking

Hallmarking is a British tradition which has been around since the year 1300 when it was first introduced by King Edward I of England. Since then it has provided consumers with that added protection. Each piece of jewellery will have been independently tested to check the gold purity is what we say it is. All our Gold Jewellery is fully Hallmarked by The London Assay Office. There are other Assay Offices in Birmingham, Sheffield & Edinburgh.

The Hallmark includes the 375 marking for 9K Gold, the 585 marking for 14K Gold or the 750 marking for 18K Gold plus the Leopards Head and the Royal Crown. This hallmark is Unique to the London Assay Office. Every Hallmarked item also displays our unique Makers Mark which is AK and has been registered at The Assay Office since 1973. The Date Letter is also included which shows the year the piece of jewellery was manufactured.

Please be aware that not all jewellery found online is hallmarked. Jewellery made outside of the UK and imported, whilst it should be hallmarked if it is to be sold and marketed to the UK is not always the case. Unhallmarked jewellery may not be real gold. LetsBuyGold.com always sell real gold and personally recommend staying away from unhallmarked jewellery. If in doubt ask the retailer.

We are proud to be members of The British Jewellers' Association and you can see our information here

Gold Colours

Most of the Rings we manufacture ourselves, here in England using traditional methods. As we manufacture them ourselves, we are able to offer most items in either Yellow Gold, Rose Gold or White Gold settings We are also able to offer many of our Gold Rings in Sterling Silver. If you would like to check availability of a particular design in Sterling Silver then please contact us We are delighted to tell you that a ALL items that we sell are Nickel free. Some people are allergic to Nickel so they can buy with confidence from us knowing that all our Jewellery is Nickel free.

Yellow Gold

Pure Gold has a bright Yellow Gold colour. It is this Yellow Gold colour which jewellery has been traditionally manufactured in and is still very popular today. Yellow Gold is made by mixing Pure Gold with copper and Zinc.

Rose Gold

Rose Gold is red or pink in colour. Rose Gold jewellery was very popular during the reign of Queen Victoria and is still very popular today. Rose Gold is made by mixing Pure Gold with Copper & Zinc. It is the copper which brings out the rose tinge. You may not know but the higher the caratage (i.e 18K Gold) the less 'red' rose gold jewellery is. This is because there is a higher concentration of gold compared to the alloy.

White Gold

White Gold is white in colour. White Gold jewellery became very popular during the 1920s as a cheaper alternative to Platinum which was usually only worn by the very wealthy upper classes. It is still very popular today. White Gold is made by mixing Pure Gold with Silver & Palladium. Most white gold jewellery is rhodium plated as well. Due to the fact that Palladium and Rhodium are part of the 'Platinum Family' you will find that White Gold Jewellery is generally more expensive than Yellow Gold or Rose Gold. You may think that Silver and White Gold look the same, however, Silver is a far softer metal than White Gold. White Gold is more hard wearing than Silver. Silver will also tarnish whereas White Gold may not if it has been rhodium plated. The quality of white gold is far superior than silver and this is reflected it the large difference in price.
